GREEN BUSINESS LEAGUE

Recently, the Burgaw Chamber of Commerce earned its Green business certification from the Green Business League.  With the assistance of Nancy Keith of NC Green Consultants, the Burgaw Chamber of Commerce scored an impressive 156 points during the Green assessment.

As businesses become environmentally-aware, the next questions are how to participate in an honest way and how is that participation measured.  The Green Business League requires an annual live audit by a Certified Green Consultant which makes this certification more than a token effort.

Certain Green improvements found were an energy audit, energy efficient lights, annual sealing the building for leaks, recycle bins, Energy Star equipment, promoting the use of cloth shopping bags, and recycled paper products.  This was not all of the Green practices found, but demonstrates that nearly any business can operate as a Green business.

Construction of the facility is not the only criteria for a Green business.  The operation is equally important.  Going Green is also progressive.  This means that the job isn't done at certification.  It has only begun as new and better ways to operate as a Green business are found. 

The Green Business League welcomes the Burgaw Chamber of Commerce and invites other chamber to follow suit.  The Green Business League is able to supply an area program for Green businesses to any chamber program.  Nancy Keith invites other businesses to contact NC Green Consultants for assistance.
